2020 NFL mock draft: Bengals land Justin Herbert
By Brad Weiss
What was supposed to be a solid season for the Jacksonville Jaguars, one where they put to rest the nightmares of Blake Bortles, and turned to Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles, has turned to a nightmare of its own through the first two weeks of the NFL season. The Jaguars have gotten out to an 0-2 start, Foles is gone for the foreseeable future, and their star cornerback, Jalen Ramsey, wants out.
All of this through only two weeks, and while Ramsey could be on his way out as early as today, netting the Jags another 2020 first rounder, they only hold one pick as of press date. That means they will go out and try to replace Ramsey with a new CB1, and C.J. Henderson from Florida should be the first corner off the board next April.
Henderson is not only a great cover guy, but he has great makeup speed, and this is a Jaguars defense that needs help on all three levels. This was supposed to be the strength of this roster, but it has completely imploded, and it is time to turn the page in terms of the future of Ramsey in Jacksonville.
The Arizona Cardinals are off to a 0-1-1 record in Kyler Murray’s first season under center, as the 2019 NFL Draft’s first overall pick has looked very good in his first two weeks in the NFL. Murray has thrown for 300 yards twice already, and based on what we have seen, he has the ability to bring his team back no matter the situation.
Looking at the roster as a whole, they have a lot of work to do, and that includes getting better along the offensive line. Tristan Wirfs from Iowa could be one of the top-3 offensive linemen off the board, and if the Cardinals were smart, they would do everything in their power to make sure Murray is upright, as he is the new face of the franchise.
The bottom line is, D.J. Humphries is going to be a restricted free agent next offseason, and he has not really played well enough to warrant a big contract. Arizona could bring in Wirfs on a rookie deal, which will not only be cheaper, but would actually give the team a more talented piece protecting Murray’s blindside.
