Fantasy Football: Week two dudes, duds, and deceivers
Patrick Mahomes, Quarterback, Kansas City Chiefs
I almost didn’t put Mahomes on this list because I didn’t want to be Captain Obvious, but it would be disrespectful not to. Mahomes, as expected, balled out once again against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.
Mahomes threw for 443 yards and four touchdowns as the Chiefs breezed by the Raiders 28-10. He didn’t throw an interception but did lose a fumble, a minor blemish on an otherwise fantastic day at the office for the reigning MVP.
After losing his star wide receiver to injury early in week one, Mahomes has shown it doesn’t matter who is lined up outside. If they can run by the defense or give him the slightest window to fit the ball into, he’ll hit them. Sammy Watkins last week, Demarcus Robinson this week, it clearly pays to be a part of that dynamic Chiefs passing attack led by the second-year starter Pat Mahomes.
Lamar Jackson, Quarterback, Baltimore Ravens
Dare I say this year’s Patrick Mahomes? That may be a stretch at this point in the season, and Jackson certainly still has a long way to go before he is awarded MVP, but in terms of finding a top-tier, dynamic quarterback in the later rounds of fantasy drafts, the comparison sticks.
Jackson backed up his incredible performance from a week ago with another magnificent showing against the Cardinals. Jackson did it all with his arm last week against the Dolphins, and like I said in last week’s edition of “dudes, duds, and deceivers”, he still has the ability to beat you with his legs. He did a lot of both on Sunday.
Jackson went for 272 yards and two touchdowns through the air as well as 120 yards on 16 carries on the ground in Baltimore’s victory. Jackson’s versatility at the quarterback position is unmatched right now in the NFL and can be a huge asset for fantasy owners.
Now if you really think about it, 14 carries might not be what you really want to see as a Lamar Jackson owner. He still has a rather frail frame that could heavily damaged by one big blow. But hopefully Lamar has learned to protect himself enough to stay healthy and continue this tear that he and the Ravens offense have started in their first two games.
