FanDuel CFB: Running Back and Wide Receiver

Now to the two juicy positions. We had six quarterbacks to consider for the QB and Super Flex spots, and again feel free to avoid that strategy…especially if you’re playing against me, but at the running back and wide-out spots, we have a plethora of great options.

That’s going to make this challening. We’ll start with running backs.

I spent most of my time building my lineup around NOT playing Zack Moss ($10,000). I kept telling myself, this is not a night for chalky plays. But, I also have this continuous nagging thought that Moss is likely going to be one of the top three FanDuel CFB plays of the night.

The uber talented Utes back is getting 20 to 30 carries per game. Better, he’s gaining yards on those rushes, currently 6th most in college football, across the nation. Zack also has four touchdowns, at least one in each of the three games he’s played, and he’s averaging 6.5 yards per game.

I know I’m hesitant to play Utah’s quarterback at USC, but Moss is the type of player who elevates above all other players, and there’s a good reason his price tag is so expensive for this slate.

If you’re going to find a cheaper, mid-to-upper $8K play in the Super FLEX spot, and can find one or two other value plays who could yield at least ten points, Moss is definitely someone you want to lock into your lineup.

If you’re not going with Moss as your top running back, Vavae Malepeai ($9,600) is a great top running back pivot move. I’m a little more worried about playing Malepeai against a very good Utah defense, but he’s also an incredible talent and also has four touchdowns, at least one in each game, against some solid defensive teams this season.

You can’t play both Zack and Vavae, but either is a great top running back pick.

My other two favorite plays at running back are Air Force mates Kadin Remsberg ($9,100) and Taven Birdow ($6,700). Remsberg is the more talented of the two, will get the ball more often, and is the most likely to have over 20 points.

However, Birdow is the more senior of the two, and is still on the field about as much as Remsberg. Considering how often the Air Force is running the triple option this season, Birdow will always be a points possibility, and he’s frankly one breakout away from being a MASSIVE FanDuel CFB value play this Friday night.

At wide receiver, immediate thoughts should always go toward your quarterback plays. And that’s exactly what we’re going to start.

If you’ve found at least one or two value plays within your lineup, you definitely should consider Khalil Shakir ($9,000) as your top wide-out. Khalil is getting the ball four to eight times per game, and is averaging around 75 yards per game, and had a touchdown against Florida State, in Florida.

However, if you went with the cheaper Slovis QB pick, Tyler Vaughns ($9,800) is a must-have and could now be more affordable. Vaushns now has over 100 yards in two of the three games he’s played, and at least five to 11 receptions. He’s also found the end zone, and is the strongest candidate of any Trojan to score the most fantasy points Friday.

Toward the higher mid-value salary range, Michael Pittman Jr. ($8,600) and CT Thomas ($8,700) each provide similar return at this tier. In a very similar type of situation, both Pittman and Thomas are likely to be the top second tier FanDuel CFB plays at the wide out position.

Regardless of your top two wide receivers, you should use Adrian Hardy ($7,600) as your value play for the receiver position. We know Louisiana Tech is likely to have a decent passing game at home against FIU, and Hardy is the most likely target heavily used during those attempts. This should be a cheaper way to get 10+ FanDuel CFB points from your third wide receiver position.
