Fantasy Football Lineup Advice – Quarterback

BOOM:

Tom Brady, NE vs. NYJ

Although some expected Brady to slow down in his age-42 season, the six-time Super Bowl champ apparently hasn’t gotten the memo. Over the first two weeks of the season, he’s thrown for over 600 yards and five touchdowns, averaging over 25 fantasy points per game. As if the Patriots’ offense wasn’t already scary enough, they went ahead and added seven-time Pro-Bowler Antonio Brown to the mix, making this offense borderline unfair and something no team in their right mind should want to face.

In Week 3, Brady is set to face the division-rival Jets back in Gillette Stadium, a team he’s got a career record of 27-7 against. New York has allowed just the 18th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in the early going, but they’ve not yet faced an offense with this kind of firepower. Jamal Adams and co. will surely have their hands full in trying to suppress this New England passing attack. Good luck with that. Do yourselves a favor: lock Brady into your lineups and reap the rewards.

BUST:

Baker Mayfield, CLE vs. LAR

Through two weeks, Mayfield has been incredibly underwhelming, scoring fewer fantasy points than even Eli Manning. Perhaps owners should’ve paid more attention to the red flags we saw throughout the preseason (completed just 46.9 percent of passes, one touchdown, and one interception in two games). He currently sits as just the QB23 on the season, averaging a subpar 12.2 FPPG. So far in the regular season, he’s thrown just two touchdowns to go along with four interceptions. He’s got a plethora of weapons, but the o-line has struggled to protect him.

Things won’t get any easier for the Oklahoma alum against the Rams. Los Angeles possesses one of the most dominant pass-rushes in the league led by All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald. They also boast a strong secondary that’s allowed the seventh-fewest passing yards in the league heading into this matchup. Baker should be a serviceable fantasy option down once he finds his footing this season, but that’s not going to happen in Week 3.

Sleeper:

Jimmy Garoppolo, SF vs. PIT

Some rust was expected for Jimmy G in the early stages of the season coming back from an ACL tear. After a lackluster Week 1 performance, he turned around and put up nearly 300 yards for 22.7 fantasy points. In Week 3, he draws a home matchup against a struggling Pittsburgh secondary that has surrendered 641 combined passing yards and 6 passing TDs through two games.
