Fantasy football lineup advice: Week 3 BOOM or BUST!
Fantasy Football Lineup Advice – Wide Receiver
BOOM:
Cooper Kupp, LAR @ CLE
While the Rams possess a plethora of weapons at the wide receiver position, none of them are as consistent of a factor as Kupp. While he has yet to reach the end-zone in 2019, the touchdowns are coming. Kupp impressed in Week 2, snagging five of nine targets for 120 yards. It should be remembered that, before going down with a season-ending knee injury last season, Kupp was fantasy’s overall WR4 in Weeks 1-4.
He’ll have a solid chance break his touchdown dry-spell this week against the Browns. Cleveland has surprisingly given up the fewest fantasy points in the NFL to opposing wideouts, but still, have much to prove to be that their first two games have come against the Titans’ and Jets’ laughable WR-corps. Browns’ corners Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams will likely be tasked with shadowing Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods. Kupp, who operates primarily out of the slot, should see plenty of open looks over the middle and will continue to be relied upon by Jared Goff.
Marquise Brown, BAL @ KC
“Hollywood” Brown couldn’t have asked for a better start to his career. In the preseason, many experts questioned his ability to be a consistent producer in his rookie season on the Ravens’ ground-and-pound approach. He’s proved everyone wrong in the early going, showing a superb rapport with quarterback Lamar Jackson and working as his go-to receiver (18 total targets). Jackson’s Year 2 progression has payed dividends for Brown, who is currently fantasy’s overall WR4 (23.7 FPPG).
If any matchup would allow Brown to keep his momentum rolling, none may be better than against the Chiefs, who have handed over 41-plus FPPG to enemy wideouts. This game has true shootout potential, leaving every reason to believe there’ll be plenty of fantasy points to go around. If you’ve got Brown rostered, you shouldn’t even think about benching him until he cools off. That’s not going to happen in Week 3.
BUST:
Tyler Boyd, CIN @ BUF
In the absence of A.J. Green, Boyd has picked up the slack. After struggling without his partner-in-crime in 2018, the 24-year-old looks to have taken the next step in his development as Andy Dalton‘s favorite weapon. In each of his first two games, Boyd has drawn at least 10 targets from Dalton, turning those opportunities into 182 yards. Still, he has yet to reach pay-dirt as guys like John Ross and Tyler Eifert have stolen his shine in the touchdown department.
While he’s undoubtedly looked good, he may have a rough go-around against a Buffalo defense that has locked-down opposing no. 1 wideouts this season. This is all thanks to Tre’Davious White, who allowed less than a single yard per snap in coverage last year. White’s currently dealing with a neck ailment, but as of now doesn’t look in any danger to miss Sunday’s game. This Bills are a good up-and-coming defense and may give Boyd trouble.
D.K. Metcalf, SEA vs. NO
Metcalf has been a viable fantasy option in the early stages of the season, averaging a sufficient 14 FPPG. Like Marquise Brown, he’s emerged quicker than many expected in his rookie campaign, displaying his deep-threat and contested-catch ability while working as a second-fiddle to Tyler Lockett. On the young season, Metcalf has averaged over 20 yards per catch. He’s been productive, but may not see the consistent volume on the most run-heavy offense in the league.
His Week 3 opponent, the New Orleans Saints, have coughed-up a handful of big plays to wideouts already this season, but those were against the high-octane passing attacks of the Rams and Texans. Metcalf gets a date with the first elite cover-corner of his career this week, Marshon Lattimore. His schedule thus far has been a cakewalk, but that changes against New Orleans.
Sleeper:
Randall Cobb, DAL vs. MIA
Cobb has looked comfortable in his new home thus far, posting fantasy scores of 16.9 and 8.5 (11 total targets), respectively, in his first two games in a Cowboy uniform. His opportunity should increase over the next several weeks after it was announced Michael Gallup (meniscus) will miss the next 2-4 games. Still just 29 years old, he’s got a chance to break out against a swiss-cheese Miami defense.
