DraftKings NFL GPP pivots: Running Backs

David Johnson had two very different performances in his first two games this season. He was completely shut down last week by the Ravens stout run defense, but flashed his upside in this offense with 82 rushing yards, 55 receiving yards, and a touchdown in week one against the Lions

Johnson is lining up next to Kyler Murray in the shotgun on 96% of the Cardinals snaps. As a result, he’s seeing a stacked box only 4% of the time. At 6.8k he’s going to be completely overlooked and right is being projected at single-digit ownership.

On a PPR site like DK, Johnson has a ton of upside due to his pass-catching ability and this game between Arizona and Carolina has the fastest projected pace of any game on the slate. While a lot of people are targeting Murray and Fitzgerald in the passing game, I like Johnson as a way to get exposure to this Cardinal offense.

Peyton Barber is my cheap GPP play at running back this week. While I am not a huge fan of him as a back, he looks like he may have locked down the majority of the snaps and carries for this Tampa team after his 82-yard performance last week on 23 carries.

This week, Barber gets a Giants defense that has been bad against the run this year (25th in DVOA) and the pass (31st). While a lot of ownership is going to Jameis Winston and his primary pass catchers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, I think Barber is well suited here to have another solid performance this week in the rushing game.

At only 4.6k, he has a ton of upside if he were to end up with 20 carries, a few targets out of the backfield, and a touchdown.
