EPL DFS – Mid-Tier Forwards/Midfielders

Ashley Barnes (Norwich @ Burnley, $16) – I am surprised to see Barnes priced this low, but I am all for it because he’s possible to fit in with a City stack if you’re okay punting at other positions.  This is a great matchup for Barnes at home against Norwich who has given up the most goals in the league so far (12 in 5 games).  Barnes shares the title as “player with best odds to score not on Manchester City” at EVEN, but the $3 savings and better matchup have me favoring Barnes.

After four goals in his first three games this year, he’s cooled off mightily, but this is a tremendous matchup to get back on track.  I really like Barnes on this slate as a mid-tier guy, but predicting his ownership seems tough.  He could go low-owned with people paying up for City and his rough-looking game log, but people could also realize that he’s cheap and this is a great matchup which would spike his ownership.  Either way, I’ll look to Barnes in all formats.

Emiliano Buendia (Norwich @ Burnley, $14) – Instead of paying up for Teemu Pukki, I prefer to get my Norwich exposure from their secondary guys like Buendia.  Buendia hasn’t scored yet this year, but he does have four assists and 13 chances created.  I already mentioned that Burnley’s defense isn’t a matchup to be afraid of, and Norwich’s attack is firing on all cylinders so far this season.  Buendia has gone for 25+ fantasy points in 3/5 of his games so far and has a good shot to make that 4/6.  For $1 more, you can get Todd Cantwell ($15) who has shown more upside with two goals this year and a similar floor in the mid-teens.

Solly March (Brighton @ Newcastle, $14) – For the most part, I’m not going to focus on plays in this game, but I don’t mind March on Saturday.  He has established a decent floor and showed us his upside last week with an assist on his way to a 28.8 fantasy point performance.  Newcastle’s defense isn’t great.  March should be able to create a few chances and add in some defensive peripherals for a solid fantasy output at low ownership.  Neal Maupay ($14) scored last week and he has solid odds to score this week at +240.  His floor is much less limited, but a low-owned goal is in play with him.

Oliver Norwood (Sheffield United @ Everton, $14) – Another mid-tier guy I’m considering on Saturday is Norwood.  He’s been steadily increasing his average fantasy points up to 16.6 right now.  He’s creating an average of 2.6 chances per game and he adds in a good number of defensive peripherals.  This isn’t the greatest matchup for Sheffield as underdogs on the road, which is why I’m after peripherals from Norwood instead of guys with better odds to score like Oliver McBurnie ($12) or David McGoldrick ($14).
