EPL DFS – Value Forwards/Midfielders

Christian Atsu (Brighton @ Newcastle, $12) – I’m not sure I’ve ever written up Atsu before, but there’s a first time for everything.  Atsu is creating three chances per game and he has two assists in his three starts so far.  Brighton’s defense is poor, and Newcastle has the benefit of playing at home.  With a goal total of only 2.0, I’m less interested in goal scorers from this game and more interested in value guys who can get me peripherals.  I likely will limit my exposure to one field player from this game (and maybe a GK), and Atsu is a good candidate to be that one guy with the matchup and his recent success.

Dwight McNeil (Norwich @ Burnley, $11) – McNeil has the third-best odds out of Burnley starters to score in this game.  That normally doesn’t spark my interest, but it does in this matchup.  I touched on Norwich’s league-worst defense above, but I just wanted to give you a quick reminder that they are allowing 2.4 goals per game.  Burnley attackers are a good pivot off City on Saturday with some cheap enough to even be paired with a City stack.

Pascall Gross (Brighton @ Newcastle, $10) – If you can’t find the extra $2 for Atsu, you’re one guy from the late game could be Gross.  Gross has good upside for a value guy that doesn’t score much.  When he’s on his game, he can create 5+ chances in a game.  Newcastle’s defense has given up eight goals in five games, so if someone can get on the end of one of those chances, he could get an assist.  If you need a cheap guy that helps you get your studs, Gross can fill that role.  Again, this isn’t the greatest matchup for their team, but taking a cheap player from this game who gets good peripherals is a worthy strategy.
