NFL Recap: Week 2 fantasy football lessons learned
Regardless of how amazing his skills are, Kerryon Johnson just hasn’t been a guy I can trust yet this year. He did better this past week against the Chargers because he was able to catch a touchdown. It’s tough because when you see highlights of him on tape, he’s SO dynamic but he doesn’t seem to be getting the ball in his hands enough. However, the Lions just cut CJ Anderson which could bode really well for Kerryon in the red zone and is something to monitor.
I like him this week as a tournament GPP play against the Eagles. When there’s a situation like this where someone was cut or there is potential for the workload to increase, you want to make sure you’re ahead of it before there is a market correction. For you non-economics students out there, basically I’m suggesting you try and catch the guy while he’s underpriced for his potential future opportunity before he does really well and his price skyrockets.
The true reason the Raiders were super chalk in fantasy football this past week, aside from price and matchup, was because the daily fantasy football sites release the slates for the upcoming week before they can take into account what occurred Monday. For instance, a guy who did REALLY well on a Monday night may not see his price increase for the next slate. Unfortunately, the Monday night games this year look to be terrible. The most recent game showcased a terrible Jets team against a surprisingly not great Browns team.
My biggest takeaway from that game and week 1 was the incredible usage for Le’Veon Bell. Unfortunately, Bell is not in a great situation to take advantage of this Monday night hack because A. they play the Patriots this week and B. they’re on their third (fourth?) string quarterback. However, keep this Monday night fantasy football thing in mind going forward and watch for times you can jump on this.
James Conner might be out for a bit, unfortunately. I haven’t heard any real updates and we know he left the game Sunday with a knee injury and didn’t come back. He believes he’s going to play but we know that isn’t always the case with these guys. They always WANT to play or think they can play but it might not work out. If that is the case, it’s important to note Jaylen Samuels played 24 of 25 snaps without Conner. That’s to be expected to an extent but there were some rumblings of Benny Snell picking up work and that just isn’t going to happen based on that. Samuels is also a solid pass catcher so he could be worth a look on DraftKings if (and only if) Conner is out.
