NFL Recap: Week 2 fantasy football lessons learned

When there is a defense that scores the third-highest fantasy points in a week of any position, there’s something that needs to be said. Clearly playing the defense that goes against the JV Miami Dolphins is the move week in and week out. I got cute and overthought it which was really dumb. However, if you played the Patriots THEY ARE WHY YOU WON. If you did not play the Patriots, THEY ARE WHY YOU LOST. Period end of story.

More from Fantasy Football

You can take it to a more macro level and say it was lineup construction etc. but all of that is just a fancier way of saying you either did or didn’t play a chalky 40 point play which means either a win or a loss. The market is correcting even further and we may see defenses in future weeks that are going against Miami be incredibly chalky AND expensive. This week Dallas is 5k on FanDuel and you have the Patriots up there too against the Jets and their third-string quarterback.

There isn’t much else to learn here in regards to defenses so I’ll touch on wide receivers as well. There are stud wide receivers this coming week that is going to be incredibly cheap and there is a reason for that. We can take a lesson learned for wide receivers as it is more than okay to pay down. Larry Fitzgerald has been absolutely crushing it. John Ross has mysteriously destroyed and come out of nowhere as has the Bengals “prolific” passing attack. Cooper Kupp has been the cheapest wide receiver on the Rams each week but through two weeks, he has the most targets, most catches, and most yards of the three.

Long story short, do NOT be afraid to pay down at wide receiver despite some studs at the very top who are cheaper than normal. Use that extra salary to pay up for defense and quarterback and hope they don’t get hurt I guess!
