2. Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama

Tua Tagovailoa continues to be an elite college football quarterback at this point that is just feasting on a relatively soft early schedule for Alabama. Against Southern Miss on Saturday, the junior signal-caller barely broke a sweat and still managed to put up yet another stupid-good statistical day.

The future Miami Dolphin (possibly, at least) finished the Week 4 contest going 17-of-21 for 293 yards and five more touchdowns for his year. Tagovailoa now has 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns through the air while adding a rushing touchdown as well. While he’ll need to play full games at this level in SEC play to take on the No. 1 spot at this point, he’s clearly in the mix to win the Heisman Trophy and be a finalist once again.

1. Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma

Jalen Hurts and the Oklahoma Sooners were idle in Week 4, so it’s impossible to take him off of the top spot in these rankings at this point. The Alabama graduate transfer has been truly remarkable through his first three games under the direction of Lincoln Riley in Norman and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down whenever the Sooners get back onto the field.

In those three outings, Hurts has 880 yards and nine touchdowns through the air with no interceptions to tarnish his output. More importantly for his candidacy, though, he also has 38 rushes for 373 yards and four touchdowns in 2019. If that type of dual-threat production maintains, it’s going to be hard to not make it three straight Oklahoma quarterbacks to win the Heisman.
