How the WWE Four Horsewomen changed women’s wrestling
Hey, We Want Some Bayley!
While Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch were holding their own on the main roster fellow Horsewoman Bayley remained in NXT. As the Women’s Champion Bayley was the representative of the NXT Women’s Division. And with the black and yellow brand still in its infancy having Bayley lead the charge became an important factor in NXT’s success.
Not only was Bayley a fighting champion on screen but behind the scenes she became a locker room leader. Many Superstars have noted how Bayley would be there to help them as they were coming up in the business.
While she was NXT Women’s Champion Bayley had some amazing matches with the likes of Nia Jax and Asuka who would eventually be the one to take the title away from her. But as one door closed, another opened.
WWE made the announcement of a mystery tag-team partner who would be joining Sasha Banks in her fight against Charlotte Flair and Dana Brooke at Battleground. Speculation ran rampant about who the tag partner might be. But it was Bayley who would get the call.
Just a few weeks later, Bayley sat backstage at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. awaiting her first appearance on WWE’s main roster wondering if anybody in the crowd would know who she was. But right before her music hit the Verizon Center erupted in a sing-song of “Hey, we want some Bayley!” As she made her entrance the crowd erupted into cheers and began a chant of her name. It was the moment they’d been waiting for: All four Horsewomen were on the main roster.
Bayley’s run on the main roster had its ups and downs but she’s proved her worth time and again regardless. After winning her first SmackDown Women’s Championship things started to change for Bayley. She’s heavily featured on pay-per-views as she vowed to elevate the SmackDown Women’s Championship and the women’s division along with it.
After what she accomplished as NXT Women’s Champion, Bayley will no doubt be true to her word. She’s already been calling out talent online focusing on the women who haven’t had as many opportunities as others. “Role Model” may be her new gimmick but they always say the best gimmicks are just amplified versions of the real person, and Bayley has been a role model for the entire women’s division.
