NFL quarterback rankings, Week 4: Baker Mayfield must be better
Neil Lomax Division
17. Josh Allen (LW: 22)
Allen is completing 64.3 percent of his throws. Love it. Allen is always going to throw some picks and be aggressive, so if he complete the easier throws and keep the chains moving, he’ll give Buffalo a chance to win. So far, the Bills are 3-0, and Allen is playing like a solid quarterback.
16. Kirk Cousins (LW: 15)
Cousins still looks lost for the Vikings. Minnesota scored 34 points in a blowout win over Oakland, but Cousins was ho-hum. On the season, the $84 million man is hitting 58 percent of throws for 502 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Mediocre at best.
15. Baker Mayfield (LW: 12)
What is wrong with Mayfield? For starters, the playcalling has bee atrocious. Furthermore, Mayfield is very tentative behind a bad offensive line. Finally, Mayfield isn’t playing well in his own right with five interceptions in three games. Terrible combination.
14. Jimmy Garoppolo (LW: 14)
Garoppolo is turning the ball over too much, but the tools are there for him to be a borderline-elite quarterback. His 8.8 yards per attempt is somewhat misleading because the Niners had a ton of run-after-catch yards against the Bengals in Week 2, but he has shown a willingness to push the ball down the field. Keep building off that.
13. Carson Wentz (LW: 7)
There’s no other way to say this: Wentz has been terrible the past two weeks save the fourth quarter in Atlanta. Against the Lions, he missed open throws and looked unsure in clean pockets. Philadelphia is missing some playmakers, but that’s not an excuse to airmail throws.
