2020 NFL mock draft: Saints take Joe Burrow
By Brad Weiss
The Detroit Lions were not expected to do much this season, as many believed the NFC North would belong to the likes of Chicago or Green Bay. However, they have been better than advertised, and through the first three weeks of the season, they have yet to lose a game, although they do have a tie on their record.
Last weekend, the Lions pulled off one of the more stunning victories of the season, beating the Philadelphia Eagles at home. That was fresh off the team beating the Los Angeles Chargers the week before, so in two weeks, the Lions have overcome two teams that are slated to be contenders in their respective conferences.
When it comes time for the Lions to draft in 2020, they will likely be picking earlier than this, but if the early season is any indication, they could be players in the NFC. With the No. 25 pick, they should look to bolster the secondary, and they have a hole at safety, where Alabama’s Xavier McKinney would fit in perfectly for head coach Matt Patricia.
The Green Bay Packers have gotten off to a 3-0 start this season, and already have division wins on their belt against the Chicago Bears, and the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers have a new head coach in place in Matt LaFleur, and while the jury is still out as to whether he and Aaron Rodgers can co-exist, so far, so good in the Land of the Cheesehead.
Looking at this roster, it is clear they need more weapons on offense, as the team is not taking too many chances downfield. With their first round pick next April, which should be late in round one, they should look to bring in one of the better wideouts in the draft class in Jalen Reagor from TCU to team with Davante Adams.
Rodgers is one of the better quarterbacks in the league, and it looks like the Packers are going to be able to run the ball with success this season. Looking ahead, giving him more weapons in the passing game has got to be the priority, and you can believe the new head coach will be looking for any way to keep him happy.
