2020 NFL mock draft: Saints take Joe Burrow
By Brad Weiss
The Philadelphia Eagles have struggled out of the gate in 2019, losing by a combined five points over the last two weeks to the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions. Still, this is a team that figures to be in the playoff picture deep into the 2019 campaign, and could be picking later than No. 17 when it is all said and done.
One area of need for this team is in the pass rush, and they should look to target that skill set in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. One player who is very interesting in that capacity is Terrell Lewis from Alabama, who is an outside linebacker who has a propensity to really get after the quarterback.
For me, the jury is still out on this team, as they have not proven they can win the close one this season, and do not have Nick Foles to fall back on if Carson Wentz gets hurt again. Sure, they have the talent to compete until the every end in the playoff race, but they need to get this thing moving in the right direction.
The New Orleans Saints looked very good with Teddy Bridgewater under center this past week, going into Seattle and beating a very good Seahawks team on the road. Bridgewater was a fantastic quarterback in this league before hurting his leg, and while Drew Brees is out, he will provide stability at the position in the coming weeks.
When you look at this team long-term, they have to start thinking about life after Brees, as he is not getting any younger, and has suffered some injuries over the past two seasons. If they do decide to draft a new franchise quarterback, they should look in-state, where Joe Burrow is absolutely dominating for LSU.
It is never easy to replace a franchise quarterback, but adding a guy like Burrow could soften the blow, as he is already a fan favorite among Saints fans. The bottom line is, this kid is playing himself into the first round discussion, and landing with New Orleans would be a best case scenario for him, and the Saints franchise.
