Daily fantasy golf: FanDuel PGA – Top value picks (Below $9,000)

Scott Piercy – $8,300 – (Cash)

Welcome to value lock city this week. I am not sure I like this, but I can’t ignore it, and it would probably not be a wise move to fade Piercy, at least in cash games. According to his gambling odds of 50/1 to win, Piercy should be priced right in that Phil Mickelson to Lucas Glover range and the fact that he is coming in about $1700 cheaper than he should be makes this one a no-brainer.

I get the GPP ownership fade, as we can expect ownership upwards of 30% in GPP’s and 50-60% if not more in cash games, and one way to differentiate from the field is the fade. However, Piercy is another cash safe cut-maker, and fading a potential top-10 at this price would obviously end up making for a bad weekend.

So why is Piercy such a lock? For starters, he has missed just two cuts total in 2019. In 19 total events this calendar year, he has also notched eight top-20 or better finishes, with his best being his T-2 at the Byron Nelson back in May. If you fade Piercy here in GPP’s I guess I can give you a pass for strategic purposes, but I am not sure fading our last target in any format is a wise move.

Ryan Moore – $7,000 – (Cash)

Okay, I have come to the conclusion that this is just plain stupid. It is almost like price guy at FanDuel said “Whoops I forgot to put Ryan Moore in the player pool… Oh well, let’s just add him at the bottom.” If you thought the pricing on Reavie was bad, Ryan Moore is minimum price, and exactly what everyone needs to roster the studs this week.

Let’s look at this from an odds perspective once again. Moore is just 40/1 to win here at Silverado, and his comps in this range are Reavie, Kevin Na, and Grillo, all of which are over $10K this week. Technically, Moore is more than $3,000 underpriced here. This is the type of error that makes this week super easy, yet super challenging at the same time. Cash games are going to come down to whether or not you pick the right combination of studs at the top, but I will not be surprised if we see an extremely high-owned Moore here in some winning GPP lineups as well.

Moore has made three appearances here at the Safeway Open in the last five years, and he has two top-tens including a T-2 last year when he lost in a playoff with Brandt Snedeker to Kevin Tway. He finished his season with a pair of T-18’s at the John Deere Classic and the Northern Trust, followed by a T-37 at the BMW Championship.

Moore will make his season debut in Napa this week, and this is 100% where you should start your lineup this week. It isn’t often (ever) we have a top-100 golfer at minimum price, and to put it even more into perspective from an OWGR sense, Moore is currently ranked higher than Morikawa, who will cost you $10,600 this week. I am not overthinking this one. If he misses the cut, it won’t hurt in cash games, and Moore gives you as good of a chance as any while opening up so many possibilities at the top.
