Finding a reliable fantasy football tight end in a shallow pool of replacements is hard but possible.

The tight end position was the hardest to rank for fantasy football for a few reasons. The most obvious was the lack of consistent talent outside of the top-three names. Now, with three weeks in the books, more names have emerged and are proving to be top-10 worthy.

But, with bye weeks starting and injuries piling up, finding a tight end worthy of your roster let alone a starting spot is becoming more difficult. Depending on your league’s settings, some options may be more valuable than others.

Looking ahead to week 4, George Kittle is on a bye, Vance McDonald is dealing with a shoulder injury, David Njoku was placed on the IR, and Jimmy Graham absent from the Packers playcalling, the need for a replacement is adding up.

These three tight ends are available in over 50 percent of ESPN leagues. I’m not going to focus on their week 4 matchups as much but if you need a starter for this week, you should be able to find someone on the waiver wire.

Will Dissly, SEA

Dissly has at least five catches, 50 yards and a touchdown in his last two games. The Seahawks don’t have an abundance of pass catchers for Russell Wilson to throw to. Outside of Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, the target share is wide open.

Dissly and the Seahawks have a favorable matchup against the Cardinals. They have allowed 319 receiving yards and five touchdowns to tight ends through three games. With the running game a question mark for Seattle, I expect Dissly to be an impact player this week.

Vernon Davis, WSH

After his most recent concussion, Jordan Reed‘s career is in jeopardy. But, like in most sports, it’s next man up. And that man is the veteran. He had a big week 1 against the Eagles but went quiet against Dallas and Chicago.

Now, Davis and the Redskins take on the Giants. We saw how bad that defense was in week 3 against Tampa Bay. The Redskins top wide receiver is Terry McLaurin. After him, Davis is the likely second option. He’ll have a big game against this bad defense.

However, keep in mind the development of 25-year-old Jeremy Sprinkle. His snap count has increased over the last three weeks.

Demetrius Harris, CLE

With Njoku out for a while, Harris becomes the Browns starting tight end. With a tough matchup against the Rams in week 3, he was targeted just twice and caught a six-yard pass. He is a pickup for those in the deepest of leagues.

The Browns face the Ravens in week 4, a defense that has allowed the 10th-fewest fantasy points to tight ends. The offensive line has been an issue for Cleveland all season. If Baker Mayfield is under pressure, checking down to Harris will be his saving grace.

Week 4 - Fantasy Football First Look. dark. Next

The tight end position is the biggest variable in fantasy football. If the team wants to run, the tight end will be used to block. If they need to play catchup, they go out wide and, hopefully, catch a pass. These three options have a good chance to score not only this week but in the future.
