Early DraftKings college football quarterback picks September 28
Top Tier:
Texas Tech’s defense is better than normal, but Jalen Hurts is simply on a different planet right now. Hurts has accounted for 13 touchdowns, 1,253 total yards, and just one turnover. There’s no reason to fade here. Hurts came to Oklahoma to win a Heisman. The Sooners are going to let him play at least three quarters even if this is a blowout.
We just saw Chase Garbers light up the Land Sharks last week. Tua and this band of elite receivers could have a monster game against Ole Miss. The only thing to worry about here is another blowout. However, Alabama has won their games by an average of 39.3 points and Tua hasn’t been under 30 DraftKings points yet. He’s safe, but probably doesn’t have the upside of Hurts.
Middle Tier:
Another guy that has at least 30 DraftKings points in every game? Jamie Newman. He’s not a household name, but Newman has been the real deal for Wake this year. We saw Boston College get carved up by Carter Stanley a couple of weeks ago. This could be a huge game for Newman and these talented wideouts.
If Brock Purdy would have been on the DraftKings college football slate last week, he would have racked up 55.9 DraftKings points. Those are Hurts type numbers. Baylor’s defense has looked good, but it’s easy to look good against the likes of Stephen F. Austin, UTSA, and Rice. Purdy isn’t going to hit 50 again, but 30 is a real possibility.
We have seen Arkansas get carved up by the likes of Josh Love and Collin Hill, not to mention backup Patrick O’Brien. No offense to any of those guys, but Kellen Mond is better than any of them. Mond did pretty well against a stout Auburn defense. His first 30+ DraftKings point game of the year seems likely here.
Bargain Shoppers:
There are some really good options at the bottom this week, which isn’t usually the case. No, I’m not talking John Rhys Plumlee if he starts against Alabama. That’s just craziness. However, I’m not opposed to using Jett Duffey against the improved Oklahoma defense.
Duffey played in eight games, including four outright starts, last season. He has experience in the offense and some good receivers. He looks underpriced on a team that is going to throw a lot.
For those of you that watched the battle for the Iron Skillet last week, this TCU defense isn’t what Gary Patterson is used to. Carter Stanley isn’t quite the quarterback that Buechele is, but he’s not priced like it either. Stanley is a strong bet for mid 20’s in DraftKings points, which makes him an intriguing value play.
