Fantasy football lineup advice – Tight End

BOOM:

Will Dissly, SEA @ ARI

Next on the “start your tight-ends against Arizona” show is Dissly, who’s managed back-to-back nice weeks. Dissly has now found the end-zone three times in his last two games and is emerging as a favorite weapon of Russell Wilson down near the goal-line. This may be even more so the case now that Nick Vannett is out of the picture after being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday. Additionally, the second-year TE has seen his targets rise each week, showing he’s earned his quarterback’s trust.

More from Fantasy Football

This week, Dissly gets the advantage of matching up against a Cardinals defense that’s just one week away from getting star cornerback Patrick Peterson (suspension) back. Boy, do they need his help. Through three games, Arizona has been absolutely gutted by the TE position, handing over a jaw-dropping 30.1 FPPG. The next-worst? The Buccaneers, who’ve given up 18.3 FPPG. Look for Dissly to continue his hot-stretch with ease in this one.

BUST:

Jason Witten, DAL @ NO

After coming out of retirement to take on his 16th NFL season, the 37-year-old Witten has held his own, currently sitting as the overall TE11 in PPR leagues. He’s seen exactly four targets in each of the Cowboys’ games thus far, showing enough to remain involved in the team’s passing attack. While he’s obviously not the dominant force at tight-end that he once was, he’s looked spry enough to warrant streaming appeal in certain matchups.

However, this is not one of those matchups. New Orleans has been strong against TEs early in the season, allowing just over 10 FPPG while giving up only one touchdown. An area where the Saints have been proved vulnerable is their secondary, where they’ve allowed big plays to the wide-receiver position on a regular basis. Look for Dak Prescott to take advantage of this with breakout star Amari Cooper after they were shredded by Tyler Lockett (11 receptions, 154 yards) last week. In this stage of his career, Witten is as touchdown-dependent as they come. You’d be better off looking in a different direction for production in Week 4.

Sleeper:

Jordan Akins, HOU vs. CAR

Akins broke out against the Chargers, finishing the week with more fantasy points than George Kittle, Zach Ertz, and even Travis Kelce. His 22.3 points were a career-high as he found the end-zone twice. Akins drew a season-high five targets from Deshaun Watson and could have another nice outing if his QB continues to look his way in the red-zone. The Panthers have been good against TEs, but the position is too shallow to not at least consider Akins this week.
