NXT UK recap, September 25, 2019: British Scheme Style
By Jeremy Klein
Post-hype blues
Oliver Carter is getting hyped up as an unstoppable striking machine. Nevertheless, he was stopped in his debut match, losing to Joseph Conners, a guy who rarely won before then. Carter may very well be the first person to lose their debut match after receiving a video to hype up that debut.
It doesn’t get much better for Carter here against Ligero, as the NXT UK neophyte takes his second loss in as many matches. Ligero himself had a vignette air at least a couple of months ago, in which he talked about needing to find something to reignite his drive. He hadn’t been seen since. Now he re-emerges with less horns — RIP horned bondage harness — and a more serious outlook. Whatever that means.
Is Ligero more serious, more focused, more driven to success? Time will certainly tell. But he gets back on the right track by super kicking Oliver Carter’s face off before mashing what remained of his head into the mat with the C4L tornado DDT to win the match. Meanwhile, Oliver Carter has some really impressive-looking offense, but can’t to string it all together just yet. Maybe he needs a little something to jump start his nascent NXT UK career. Has he considered a horned harness?
