Seattle Mariners: The ‘Pen
Seattle’s T-Mobile Park sets the gold standard for MLB’s retractable roof stadiums. While I will always prefer an open-air stadium over a retractable roof, there’s no getting around it. The Mariners have to have a roof if they want to play in rainy Seattle. T-Mobile Park’s roof is not actually a complete roof. It does not fully close and is the only roof of its kind in Major League Baseball.
T-Mobile Park is one of the best in baseball and offers stunning views of downtown Seattle when the roof is all the way open. Unlike other retractable roof stadiums, when the roof is open, it feels like you are fully outdoors because the roof does not fold in or rotate on itself — it just slides right off the back of the stadium. The Mariners managed to capture the retro vibe even with their roof.
Outside of San Francisco, Seattle is the biggest hipster/tech bro city that hosts a Major League Baseball franchise. That means when you go to a game in the city, you can expect to eat well. The best place to do that in T-Mobile Park is in The ‘Pen.
The ‘Pen is an open-air food market in center field that is right at field level next to the bullpens. It offers great views of the field and awesome food and craft beer choices. Some of the offerings include sushi (because, Seattle), chicken and waffles, street tacos, Caribbean jerk chicken and pork and pad thai. Feel free to stay there the entire game and fill your belly with good things.
