Daily Fantasy Football: Quarterback Pivots

Chalk: Daniel Jones, Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes

Pivots: Jared Goff, Deshaun Watson, Case Keenum

Mahomes might end up being a chalky play every single week with the way he is playing, but Wilson are Jones are going to be highly owned mainly due to the fact that they exploded for huge games last week and have very exploitable matchups this week. I have no problem stacking those guys up with their pass catchers this week, but just understand that Seattle could easily go run-heavy this week and we have only a one-game sample of Daniel Jones to go off – rookies can struggle in this league, even against crappy defenses.

Let’s talk about Jared Goff first. We finally saw him register his first two-touchdown game last week against the Browns, but he also threw two picks in that game and has underwhelmed from a fantasy standpoint this season. The Rams host the Bucs on Sunday in a game in which they are pretty heavy home favorites. Despite their reputation as a run-first offense last year, Goff is attempting 35 passes per game in his first three games this season and is facing a Tampa defense that was gashed by a rookie quarterback last week.

I am a believer in Goff, I really do think he is a legit NFL quarterback. There have been some who claim he’s more of a game manager type that is benefiting from playing in a really good offensive scheme and is surrounded by good skill players who make him look good. Even if that is the case to some extent, he’s positioned to have a big week as the Rams have struggled to get Todd Gurley and their rushing attack going and the Bucs have been stout against the run this season (2nd in DVOA).

The Tampa defense is allowing a 65% completion rate to opposing quarterbacks and Goff excels at getting his three talented wideouts the ball in the short and intermediate passing game. Stacking him with his receivers can be tricky, but my favorite option for correlation on most weeks will be Cooper Kupp, who is fresh off a two-touchdown game against the Browns.
