Daily Fantasy Football: Quarterback Pivots

Deshaun Watson is quietly having an excellent start to his season and seems to be flying under the radar this season with Lamar Jackson stealing some of his thunder as the hot, new dual-threat quarterback. If you overlook the ugly week two game against the Jaguars, Watson is averaging over 30 DK points in his other two games and is completing 65% of his throws with only one interception.

The match-up with the Panthers doesn’t look that great on paper, but this Carolina defense isn’t one to be feared. Watson has one of the top playmakers in the league to throw to in DeAndre Hopkins and several other dangerous weapons in Will Fuller and Kenny Stills. Darren Fells and Jordan Akins are solid receivers at tight ends and Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson make for a capable duo in the backfield. This Houston offense is coming together and despite their solid play this season, I feel like this game is going to get overlooked even with a 47.5 total. Watson’s ability to run the ball and score rushing touchdowns gives him an enormous ceiling and I think we could see him have another big day against the Panthers on Sunday.

Case Keenum is attractive to me for several reasons this week (I know, saying that out loud made me gag a little in my mouth, too.) First of all, he’s 4.9k and is ridiculously cheap for the volume of passes he is attempting and his production. He’s attempting 41 throws a game and has a matchup with a leaky Giants secondary that is allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season.

The Redskins appear to want to keep rolling Keenum out there instead of throwing rookie Dwayne Hoskins to the wolves and as long as he’s healthy, I’m going to have a lot of Keenum shares. This game features two bad defenses and could end up being a shootout. With Jones and his pass-catchers being potentially higher owned, I like focusing on Keenum and some of his receivers instead.
