DFS Advice: Running Backs to Start

James Conner (PIT) vs. CIN

One of the most exciting rivalries in NFL history and what better way than to have a fantasy football focus added to it! Let’s face it, Conner’s season so far has been a bummer, to say the least. He’s currently RB25 while averaging 10.6 fantasy points per game in full-point formats in 2019. Conner’s running efficiency also hasn’t been any good running for just under three yards per carry.

While I’m pointing out all these negative aspects of Conner’s game, there’s a reason to be hopeful that he will perform well this week and that’s because of his matchup. He will be facing off against a horrid Bengals’ defense allowing the second-most rushing yards to ball carriers. They are also tied for second with Miami for touchdowns surrendered to tailbacks as well. If there is any reason to be hopeful for production with Conner, this is the week to feel that sense of optimism.

Joe Mixon (CIN) @ PIT

Likewise, the Bengals have a runner of their own who has been struggling himself as well. Joe Mixon, the 2018 AFC rushing champion, has not been able to replicate the same kind of production he was having. A lot of that has to do with how bad his offensive line is and without that, most running backs will wilt. There is a shining glimmer of hope though heading into this week’s matchup against the Steelers.

Pittsburgh also has a bad run defense and Mixon did show some signs of life in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills. Just like their own defense, Pittsburgh is in the top three for most rushing yards allowed to backs. It could be a running back’s day in the Steel City between both Mixon and Conner going off for their respective teams.
