DFS Advice: Wide Receivers to Sit

Emmanuel Sanders (DEN) vs. JAX

Just when I start singing the praises to start Emmanuel Sanders, he comes crashing back down to earth with a dud of a performance against the Packers. After getting a combined 20 targets for 16 catches, 184 yards, and a pair of touchdowns, Sanders was almost nonexistent in Denver’s passing game for Week 3. The Broncos appeared to have been riding the Phillip Lindsay train all afternoon, leaving Sanders behind in the dust.

He was targeted four times, catching only one pass for a meager ten yards for the entirety of the game. Now he will be taking on a tough Jacksonville defense with two of the best corners in the sport. Assuming Jalen Ramsey remains with the Jaguars for this match-up, Sanders is not a very viable option to start this week in a low-scoring affair between these two lower-level offenses.

D.J. Chark (JAX) @ DEN

D.J. Chark has made a name for himself in his young NFL career with touchdowns in each of his first three games with Jacksonville. The Jaguars don’t have much depth at the wide receiver position, so it’s not a huge surprise to see Chark thriving in this lackluster offense. Still, it is an accomplishment for such a young talent and we must give credit where credit is due.

Unfortunately, I think this will be Chark’s first mini bit of professional adversity as he gets ready to take on the Denver Broncos. The high altitudes put the home team on advantage, and Chark will be heading into unchartered waters. The Broncos are the best in terms of shutting down receivers through the air this year, and with a lack of NFL experience going against tough corners in his career, Chark may get shut down for the first time.

John Brown (BUF) vs. NE

While Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen has significantly improved from his rookie campaign in 2018, I don’t feel he is ready to be a magic man against one of the best defenses in football at this very moment. With that said, it will only hurt Brown’s production as a receiver. Allen is in the middle of the pack when it comes to passing attempts which doesn’t give too much promise on how well Brown will perform under such oppressive circumstances.

It is possible that Allen will increase the number of throws he tries in the later stages of the game considering how out of hand it is becoming. If the Bills fail to keep it close, then having Brown on my Do Not Start list may not make as much sense. Yet, I’m willing to bank on the fact that even with Allen trying to sling the ball over to Brown, the Patriots will find ways to interfere any signs of progress for the duration of the game.

Honorable Mentions: A.J. Brown @ ATL
