DFS Advice: Tight Ends to Start

Austin Hooper (ATL) vs. TEN

He may not be the flashiest of tight ends, but he certainly can get the job done most of the time. Hooper is one of those old reliable tight ends I love to go to when all the big-guns are unavailable for me to start. Through the first three weeks of 2019, Hooper is TE6 averaging 16.2 fantasy points per game in PPR formats. He’s also third in receptions (6.3/gm) and fourth in yards after the catch (4.0/tgt). While the Tennessee Titans as a unit have a formidable defense, they have surrendered three touchdowns to tight ends this year which is tied for second-most with the Los Angeles Chargers. If all else fails with your tight end options, Hooper is not a bad safety-net to fall back on.

Will Dissly (SEA) @ ARI

He was on my list of tight ends to start last week and he appears on it once again this week as well. Over the last two weeks, Dissly has been TE2, compiling 11 catches on 12 targets for 112 yards and three scores. Only Greg Olsen on the Carolina Panthers has obtained more fantasy points than Dissly in this short span of time.

He will have yet another appetizing match-up ahead of him in Week 4 as the Seahawks travel to Arizona. The Cardinals have allowed the most receiving yards to opposing tight ends in 2019 so far. With Dissly continuing to trend upward and a potentially easy opponent awaiting him, he should have yet another fine day for fantasy managers. Start him if he is on your roster.

Greg Olsen (CAR) @ HOU

While the Houston Texans’ defense is one of the more stingier teams in the league towards tight ends, I still believe Olsen is in line for a big afternoon. With quarterback Cam Newton having gone down with a foot injury, it’s up to young Kyle Allen to step in and save the day. Some felt uneasy about how well Olsen would fair with a new quarterback in the fold, but he did just fine as he received seven targets, three of which were in the red zone (sixth-most) and caught six of them for 75 yards and a pair of scores.

It seems that there might be a bit of chemistry developing between the experienced veteran tight end, and young talented quarterback in the early stages of their relationship. This week’s match-up on the road will be a great test to see how good their bond is.

Honorable Mentions: Darren Waller @ IND & Mark Andrews vs. CLE
