8. Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State

When talking about the 4-1 Oklahoma State Cowboys, much of the discussion — outside of Mike Gundy’s sick mullet — has been regarding their freshman quarterback. Every college football fan in the country, however, should be focusing on what running back Chuba Hubbard is doing because, put simply, the young man is putting up video-game numbers with relative consistency.

In an upset win over No. 24 Kansas State in Week 5, Hubbard went berserk as he registered 25 carries for an absurd 296 yards and, somehow, only one touchdown on the night. Through five games, Hubbard has almost already broken the 1,000-yard mark as he has 128 totes for 938 yards and 10 scores. If that can be maintained in Big 12 play and OSU can be successful, Hubbard could seriously put himself in the mix.

7. Chase Young, DE, Ohio State

Essentially, Chase Young is the defensive side of the ball’s only chance at winning the 2019 Heisman Trophy. To the credit of the Ohio State Buckeyes defensive end, though, he’s doing absolutely everything he can to remain in the conversation, submitting the type of dominant defensive performance on the year that’s necessary to even be considered.

Helping lead a terrific defensive effort for the Bucks against Nebraska in Lincoln, Young finished the night with three total tackles while also bringing down Adrian Martinez for one sack. That now gives Young an impressive eight sacks through the first five games of the year, including at least one quarterback takedown in every game. If that keeps up and he has any more multi-sack games, it will be an unforgettable campaign for Young.
