NASCAR DFS Low-End Sleepers

David Ragan

Per the usual, in this category, we’re looking for place differential potential. Guys who are starting towards the back of the pack who may be able to pass a good chunk of cars and work their way to a top 20 or so.

David Ragan is starting 27th this week and has finished 22nd and 20th in the first two road course races this year. Last week, Ragan was a staple of winning DFS lineups, as he scored 40.0 DraftKings fantasy points.

In this race last year, Ragan started 30th and finished 16th. He just always seems to find a way to stay out of trouble and improve on his starting spot nearly every single race. I think Ragan at least picks up a handful of spots on Sunday, and if there is another big wreck that he can avoid, has top 20 or even top 15 potential. He was 12th-fastest in first practice, and is priced outside the top 30 drivers on DraftKings.

Daniel Hemric

Daniel Hemric has burned me before in this spot, but I think his situation for this race is playing out well for his DFS value.

This race was one of a few that Hemric and the 8 team ran a season ago, so he has experience at the track despite this being his first full-time season as a Cup driver. In that race, Hemric finished in the top 10 in the second stage before winding up 23rd.

This season, Hemric has often qualified very well, leading to negative place differential. This week, he will start middle of the pack in 20th. While that doesn’t give him a great opportunity to gain spots, his race at Sonoma is one I look at for Hemric. In that race, he started 25th and finished 15th, earning 39.0 DraftKings points.

Hemric is a capable road racer, who is out to prove that he deserves a ride for next season. If he is able to avoid trouble and land another top 15, he could do just that and provide a solid day for DFS players.

Matt Tifft

NASCAR Cup Series rookie Matt Tifft may not be a household name, but the Ohio native has a history of running well at road courses. Last season in the Xfinity Series, Tifft’s best finish came at a road course, finishing second at Road America.

Tifft also finished fourth at Mid-Ohio and sixth at this track, the Charlotte ROVAL, in that series a year ago. In this season’s two Cup Series races at road courses, Tifft scored a respectable 22.0 and 16.5 DraftKings fantasy points for someone of his salary.

In those two races, Tifft finished 24th and 28th. However, he started 26th and 28th in those races, and still scored fantasy points. Sunday, Tifft will roll off 36th. Another finish in the 20s would be a solid day for Tifft, and with his poor qualifying position, he should gain quite a few place differential points as he uses his road course prowess to move his 36 car up the pack.
