Daily fantasy golf: FanDuel PGA – Mid-tier picks ($10,000-$11,000)

Gary Woodland – $10,800 – (GPP)

Looking at the mid-range this week, we have a ton of viable options that I have interest in. Collin Morikawa started his new season with a T-10 last week at the Safeway Open, and he figures to anchor many a cash lineup this week. For that reason, I am taking a really hard look at Gary Woodland as the perceived ownership pivot away from a likely chalky Morikawa.

This will be Woodland’s first action of the new season, but he was able to finish strong after his slight hiccup following his unforgettable win at the U.S. Open. Woodland missed his next two cuts following that dynamic win, but he gradually improved on every finish from that point on, ending the season with a 15th place finish at the TOUR Championship.

Here at the Shriners Open, Woodland has finished inside the top-20 in each of the last two years, and those were actually his only appearances. The 35-year-old Woodland  T-18 in 2017, and he was in a big group that T-10 last year at 14-under par.

Scottie Scheffler – $10,200 – (Cash)

Of course, we have had a plethora of rookies and young stars that I have featured in this article over the last year and change. While some of the other bigger names were thrust into the spotlight a bit sooner than others, one name I have not talked about much and who is proving to be the real deal is 23-year-old Scottie Scheffler, who earned his way here by lighting up the Korn Ferry Tour last season.

Scheffler won twice on the KFT last season and posted an astounding ten top-10’s in 20 events in 2019 on the lesser tour. He then burst onto the PGA spotlight on a Friday afternoon at the Greenbrier three weeks ago, when he fired a 62. The same score as Joaquin Niemann shot that day en route to his first victory. Scheffler finished T-7 in his season debut and followed with a T-16 at the Sanderson Farms Championship in his next action.

After finally getting to see him play a little bit at the Greenbrier and Sanderson Farms, and having to wait a week as he was not in the Safeway Open field last week, I am ready to board this bandwagon in cash games and ride the wave. Scheffler has the makings of another future winner on the PGA Tour, and it will not be long before we are talking about when he will get that first win… If we aren’t already.
