College football betting results afternoon September 28:

Clemson(-27.5) at North Carolina: MISS! I get the decision to go for two, especially since Clemson had battled all the way back, but the Tarheels honestly would have had a better chance taking this to overtime. The Clemson defense is too good in such a confined space that a two point conversion is.

Mississippi at Alabama(-38.5): HIT! Devonta Smith went for a school record 274 receiving yards and five touchdowns and the Tide still didn’t cover. That’s why huge lines are so tough. Alabama completely dominated this game, but it still wasn’t enough.

Virginia at Notre Dame(-12.5): HIT! The Virginia offense had plenty of moments against the Irish, but Notre Dame finally wore them out late.

USC at Washington(-10.5): MISS! USC was lucky to keep it this close. They were completely outplayed by the Huskies.

Indiana at Michigan State(-13.5): MISS! I knew better. This game was much closer than the score indicated. The Spartans didn’t get the lead back until five seconds left. Then they returned a fumble on the final kickoff for a touchdown to make it look like a better win than it was. This defense is going to have some problems if Indiana put up 31 on them.

Florida Atlantic at Charlotte(EVEN): MISS! The Owls locked down Benny LeMay in this one. The Charlotte defense did little to help either.

Georgia Tech at Temple(-8.5): HIT! The Temple defense was in full force here, allowing just a safety to Georgia Tech, which really wasn’t the defense at all. The Owls survived a subpar game from Anthony Russo with a big game from freshman Re’Mahn Davis.

Wake Forest(-6.5) at Boston College: MISS! Wake is 5-0, but it wasn’t pretty. Anthony Brown and A.J. Dillon gouged this defense.

Iowa State(-2.5) at Baylor: MISS! The Cyclones were doomed from the beginning. The temperature was triple digits in Waco. It was over 120 degrees on the field, but on the slightly shaded Baylor sideline it was “only” 108. On the Cyclones’ sideline? 146. That is a very unfair advantage. I’m surprised the Cyclones kept it as close as they did.

Minnesota(-1.5) at Purdue: MISS! Technically Sindelar played, so my bet was Purdue. In a cruel twist of fate, Sindelar and Rondale Moore were injured on the exact same play. The Boilers were down 14-3 at that point and actually made a nice run at this before falling short.

Coastal Carolina at Appalachian State(-15.5): HIT! Scoring 56 points is not a hangover, but the defense allowed 37 while last week they held the Tarheels in the mid 20’s.

Akron(-7.5) at Massachusetts: MISS! I’m all done with the Zips! UMass has one of the worst defenses ever assembled and Akron didn’t even break 30…..

SMU(-7.5) at South Florida: HIT! Easy money! The Ponies are 5-0 for the first time since 1983. This is probably the best team they’ve had since the Death Penalty as well.

Cincinnati(-3.5) at Marshall: MISS! Marshall is not a bad team, and the Bearcats just destroyed them. This Cincinnati defense is tough and Desmond Ridder had a career day. Everything that could go right did for the Bearcats here.

New Mexico at Liberty(-7.5): MISS! That stupid half. Good thing I’m not Patrick Henry….

East Carolina at Old Dominion(-2.5): MISS! That’s what I get for following sheep.

Arkansas State at Troy(-7.5): HIT! I pretty surprised that the Red Wolves won outright, but Layne Hatcher made a huge difference for Arkansas State. How in the world did they get an Alabama transfer anyway?

Louisiana(-3.5) at Georgia Southern: HIT! I should have put more on this. I’m going to need it.
