College football betting results evening September 28:

Mississippi State at Auburn(-7.5): HIT! This is what Auburn fans were waiting for. Bo Nix only had five incompletions and threw for 335 yards on just 21 pass attempts. The Tigers were clearly men among boys on the field here, and they are perfectly content to be flying under the shadow of Alabama. This is a very dangerous team if Nix can keep this up.

Connecticut at Central Florida(-43.5): MISS! I knew better. I knew this was too many. However, it was 42-0 at halftime. If only UCF could have scored in the fourth quarter. It was still 56-7 heading into the final stanza.

Kansas State at Oklahoma State(-4.5): MISS! This was lower scoring than most games in this series are, but Chuba Hubbard just chewed up the Kansas State defense. 296 rushing yards against a ranked opponent. That was the most in school history against a ranked team by 59 yards over Thurman Thomas. Barry Sanders “only” had 222 against a ranked opponent.

South Alabama at Louisiana-Monroe(-15.5): HIT! The Warhawks aren’t 16 points better than anyone, but they are 13 points better.

UTEP at Southern Mississippi(-27.5): MISS! I knew better, but in my defense, I didn’t think UTEP would score.

UAB(-3.5) at Western Kentucky: MISS! The Hilltoppers pulled a fast one and put in Arkansas transfer Ty Storey at QB. He struggled in Fayetteville, but looked much better in Bowling Green.

Louisiana Tech(-8.5) at Rice: MISS! That Rice defense is better than they get credit for. I just can’t seem to get the Owls right this year. They are 0-5, but are 4-1 against the spread.

Stanford(-3.5) at Oregon State: MISS! Yet another half goes awry. Stanford was in control of this game until the Beavers struck for 21 in the fourth quarter alone.

Ohio State(-17.5) at Nebraska: HIT! I think everyone but the population of Nebraska saw this coming. I will say this though. I was at the game in 2017 when Ohio State also blew Nebraska off the field. The score was even worse this year at halftime, but 90% of the fans stayed whereas in 2017 the stadium was more than half empty at halftime.

The fans sticking around and still cheering them on speaks volumes about where the morale of Nebraska fans is right now compared to under Mike Riley. The results aren’t there yet, and there’s always a chance that they wont be, but at least the fans are behind the team again.

North Carolina State at Florida State(-6.5): MISS! This was one of the best games of Alex Hornibrook‘s career. The Seminoles got back to back ACC wins for the first time since 2016. If Hornibrook keeps that up, Florida State should start up another bowl streak.

Kentucky at South Carolina(-2.5): MISS! The Gamecocks finally found themselves a running back in Tavien Feaster. Ryan Hilinski was mostly ineffective, but the Gamecock defense stepped up in a big way.

Colorado State at Utah State(-24.5): MISS! The rain in Logan grounded this one in a hurry. Gerold Bright took over the ground game after Jaylen Warren went out and had himself a huge game.

UNLV at Wyoming(-9.5): HIT! Easy money. UNLV is going to be cover bait several times this year.

Fresno State(-19.5) at New Mexico State: MISS! If only the Bulldogs had cared about the second half. Fresno had this covered at halftime.

Houston at North Texas(-3.5): MISS! One has to wonder if King was holding Patrick Carr back. Carr was a monster against the not-so-Mean-Green.

Washington State at Utah(-6.5): HIT! I should have went more on this. Tyler Huntley had a huge game and it was plug and play for the Utah run game once again.

UCLA at Arizona(-3.5): HIT! I’m pretty sure the Bruins wouldn’t have covered if both J.J. Taylor and Khalil Tate had played in this game. Freshman Grant Gunnell did well leading Arizona to the win, but it was a hard fought contest.

Hawaii at Nevada(-2.5): HIT! I expected a Hawaii win, but I didn’t expect them to trample the Wolfpack into Chris Ault Field.
