Daily Fantasy Football: Draftkings NFL GPP pivots for week 5
By Dan Palyo
Daily Fantasy Football: Quarterback Pivots
Chalk: Dak Prescott, Deshaun Watson, Lamar Jackson
Pivots: Tom Brady, Joe Flacco
The dual-threat quarterbacks are all the rage these days and I project Dak, Deshaun, and Lamar as three of the most popular options at the position. Rostering those guys is fun because you can root for a rushing touchdown or two in addition to all the passing yards and touchdowns, but they are all getting priced up to the point where it’s going to be hard to fit them into lineups and pay up for other elite players at running back or wide receiver.
So instead of playing these chalkier young bucks who can run, why not roster a Tom Brady or Joe Flacco instead? While Brady and Flacco are not fleet of foot (though Brady has 3 rushing touchdowns since the beginning of last season), they both are significantly cheaper and have premium matchups against bad pass defenses this week.
Let’s start with the ageless wonder, Brady. He’s coming off his worst game of the year against a good Buffalo defense that held him to only 160 passing yards and no touchdowns. The Patriots survived that game on the backs of their defense and now Brady and company will get to feast on a Redskins defense that is 29th against the pass and 26th overall in DVOA.
The Pats are 15 point favorites on the road, and this feels like a game where Belichick lets Brady throw it a bunch in order to get his mojo back. He’s priced as the QB3 on Draftkings which could keep his ownership down, especially if people avoid this game because they are concerned with it becoming a blowout.
Meanwhile, Joe Flacco is only 4700 on Draftkings this week and is facing a Chargers defense that is 28th in pass defense. With the Chargers being a touchdown favorite in this one, the logical game script would be pass-heavy for the Broncos if they are playing from behind or match scores with the potent Chargers offense. Flacco has been solid in three of the Broncos four games this year and had his best game of the season last week when he tossed three touchdown passes against the Jags. He’s starting to gain more chemistry with his young wide receivers and even if Denver doesn’t win this game, there’s a great chance that Flacco can be very productive and exceed his salary-based expectations.
