Daily Fantasy Football: Running Back Pivots

Chalk: Christian McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliot, Dalvin Cook

Pivots: Aaron Jones, Leonard Fournette, David Johnson

I want to start out this section by addressing the fact that chalky running backs are the guys that I want to have high exposures to even in GPPs. This year we have seen a lot of chalk hit in tournaments and running back is a position where we simply don’t have that many players who get the volume of touches that are necessary to have big games. I am not recommending a fade of any of the “big three” this week and I would recommend having at least one, if not two of them in a lot of your lineups.

I usually try to keep my player pool pretty tight each week, but there are three other backs I like this week a lot. And that’s not even counting some value options like Wayne Gallman or David Montgomery. Let’s start with Aaron Jones, who should have the backfield mainly to himself this week after Jamaal Williams suffered a concussion last week.

Jones has been held to a paltry 3.3 yards per carry so far this season but has scored 4 touchdowns which has allowed him to continue to be fantasy relevant every week. His usage in the passing game increased in a big way last week as he caught 6 of 7 targets for 37 yards and that’s what makes him really appealing with Draftkings PPR scoring. Williams was the third-down pass-catching back and it now appears Jones should be a three-down back this week with the potential for 20+ touches against Dallas. When you add in the questionable status of Davante Adams, we could be looking at a huge role for Jones this week in the Green Bay offense.
