Quarterbacks to Sit

Marcus Mariota (TEN) vs. BUF

Please do not let Mariota’s Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons fool you into thinking he’s a reliable starting quarterback for fantasy. I foolishly believed that after he had a strong 2016 campaign, only to severely disappoint me the very next two years with below-average play. It’s amazing how he has a supporting cast efficiency that ranks just within the top-ten, but he still fails to put up serviceable numbers on a consistent weekly basis. We can attribute Mariota’s strong day in Week 4 mainly due to the fact that Atlanta’s defense isn’t very good. We’ll just leave it at that. The Titans will now welcome to town the Buffalo Bills, and as I have previously mentioned possess one of the stingiest defenses in the league. If you thought Tom Brady had a hard time finding success against those guys, just wait until you get a load of Mariota.

Baker Mayfield (CLE) @ SF

While Mayfield’s performance against the Ravens was impressive this past week, I still have my reservations about him. He will need to prove me wrong once again before I can remove him from this list in the future. Mayfield has a big test awaiting him this week as he will be taking on a much improved San Francisco 49ers’ defense who has surrendered the least number of passing yards to quarterbacks this year. Led by veteran Richard Sherman, this young Niners defensive corps is ready to prove they can squash the most talented offensive roster on paper. With Jarvis Landry banged up, it’s going to be even more difficult for Mayfield to find success against this young and hungry squad. I’d stay away from him at least another week before I move him off my bench.

Derek Carr (OAK) vs. CHI

Carr did have a fairly successful afternoon against the Colts on Sunday as he threw for 189 yards, a pair of touchdowns, and no interceptions. Even though it was encouraging to see him play well from a football standpoint, it still wasn’t good enough for fantasy’s standards as he finished the week as QB18. Now he gets the pleasure to play against the Chicago Bears who have allowed just 11.9 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks which is the fourth-least in the league. Their secondary has also garnered the third-most interceptions as well, which puts a damper on Carr’s stock for this week. While I do like how Carr has played from a football standpoint, I just don’t think that will cut it for fantasy’s standards.
