DFS Advice: Week 5 fantasy football start or sit
Tight Ends to Start
Zach Ertz (PHI) @ NYJ
While it comes as a no-brainer for fantasy managers to start Ertz in their lineups each and every week, the reason why I feel compelled to mention his name is the fact that the Eagles will be going up against the Jets. New York has currently allowed the most yards per catch to opposing tight ends this year (16.20) and Ertz has a connection with his quarterback Wentz that not many have in this league. Given the easy match-up and the strong bond that Ertz has with Wentz, he is a lock to have a top-five fantasy day in the tight end department.
Tyler Eifert (CIN) vs. ARI
I’m taking a huge shot in the dark this week, but Eifert has too good of a match-up for me to pass up. Eifert is for anyone who is in desperate need of a tight end with a lot of upside for this week only. He could very well have a big day if everything works out for him. While the Bengals have absolutely no structure on their offensive line to protect quarterback Andy Dalton, the Cardinals are no superstars on the defensive side of the ball either. Arizona has allowed opposing tight ends in fantasy to score the most points per game this year (19.00) which is incredible. As long as Dalton can just get the ball off into the air in Eifert’s direction several times in this game, he should have a pretty productive afternoon in the jungle.
Austin Hooper (ATL) @ HOU
Probably my personal favorite tight end option in fantasy for the last three years has been Austin Hooper, so forgive me for a little personal bias here. He’s been absolutely phenomenal this year as he is currently TE2, just second behind Evan Engram. He’s averaging 17.7 fantasy points per game, along with 28 catches for 307 yards, and two touchdowns since the start of the season. While the Texans haven’t been the most generous squad in terms of opposing tight ends having success against them, Hooper still presents a good possibility that he will bust through for a big day. He’s managed to do it before against teams like Minnesota and Tennessee so I am confident he can do it once again this week against Houston. When a tight end is averaging 7.0 targets per game, it’s hard not to stop him, especially when he’s producing with those opportunities as well.
