DFS Advice: Week 5 fantasy football start or sit
Defenses to Start
New England Patriots D/ST @ WSH
The Patriots have the best defense in the league currently and there appears to be no signs at slowing them down any time soon. Their next victim is Washington, who is in a whole world of trouble right now. Head coach Jay Gruden has yet to announce his starter for this week, but Colt McCoy seems like the most logical choice at this time. Regardless of who is under center for Washington, the Patriots should feast on this offense. New England has the most interceptions by far among all 32 defenses this year, and they are currently averaging 22.5 fantasy points per game which is out of this world. Expect yet another similar performance by this unit once again in DC.
Philadelphia Eagles D/ST @ NYJ
When your defense is going up against a third-string quarterback, you better have a good week. That’s exactly what the expectations are for Philadelphia as they prepare to take on Luke Falk and the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium Sunday. While the Eagles’ secondary hasn’t been too good against opposing arms this year, this is one of those exceptions you need to make for them. As long as the Eagles can shut down Le’Veon Bell, then this shouldn’t be much of a challenge for them. Hopefully Philadelphia can do their job this week and take care of business to prove they are still a useful squad to use on defense in fantasy.
Tennessee Titans D/ST vs. BUF
Buffalo Bills’ starting quarterback Josh Allen is currently in the concussion protocol as the team heads to Nashville to take on the Tennessee Titans and their stout defense. If Allen is unable to suit up for this week’s contest, the Titans are in line for a big day in the Music City. Backup quarterback Matt Barkley will be under center if this happens, and we all know his track record as he has thrown 10 touchdowns against 19 interceptions for his career. Even if Allen finds a way to be cleared for action in Week 5, he will be in an uphill battle dealing with Tennessee’s tough secondary who has forced four picks (third-most) this year. Either way, it seems like a win-win situation for Tennessee’s defense as the Bills have been struggling to find any sort of offensive rhythm this year. Did I mention that Buffalo is 24th for points scored per game in 2019? (19.0).
