Michigan State vs. Ohio State: 3 reasons Buckeyes stomp Spartans
2. Good luck trying to block Chase Young and that defensive line
Chase Young is the best defensive lineman in the country. But the rest of this Buckeye defensive line has been good too.
Chase Young still leads the group though, as he currently leads the nation in sacks with eight, and I’m not sure there’s an offensive lineman who can block him one on one. If you don’t see Chase Young flooding the backfield against the Spartans it’s probably because he was double-teamed.
That double team though opens up opportunities for other defensive lineman and linebackers to get into the backfield. It’s exactly why Ohio State is tied for second in the country with 24 sacks through five games. That’s what you are going to get from a team with 13 players on it who have recorded a sack.
That kind of depth is scary to see going against a Michigan State offensive line that has struggled in the past with protecting their quarterback.
Lewerke is mobile though and that ability to get out of the pocket might help limit the number of sacks given up. But we saw first hand in Ohio State’s last game against Nebraska what pressure can do to a quarterback, especially to one who isn’t that accurate in the first place.
If the Buckeye defensive line isn’t bringing down the quarterback on Saturday, you can probably expect them to be creating pressure, in turn creating costly turnovers for the Michigan State offense.
