NFL DFS: New England Patriots @ Washington Redskins

PREVIEW

Just when you think the Patriots schedule would start to ramp up, you’re wrong. A week after holding off the Bills, they get the privilege of heading to the nation’s capital to face off with The Redskins in what would presumably be Dwayne Haskins’ first career start. This should spell disaster for the Redskins, as this Patriots defense has been downright menacing.

On the flip side, this Redskins defense ranks 29th in pass DVOA and 17th in rush DVOA, giving reason to think that the Patriots offense could do some serious damage, as they are implied for the 2nd-highest total on the slat eat 29.25.

CASH PLAYS

  • Tom Brady (QB-NE): He’s never a popular option in cash, but aside from his dud in Buffalo, Brady has posted at least 20 FanDuel points in his first three weeks. He’s topped 300 yards in 2 of his 4 games and gets to face off with a secondary allowing the 4th most fantasy points to opposing QBs.
  • Julian Edelman (WR-NE): Operating out of the slot, Edelman will square off with the 100th ranked slot-cornerback Fabian Moreau (PFF grade of 43.5) and a secondary that’s allowed the 2nd most fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers.
  • James White (RB-NE): This rationale is similar to Edelman as we see White line up in the slot a lot, but he maintains a solid 14% target share out of the backfield and sees a massive uptick on a full PPR site like DraftKings.
  • Patriots D/ST: They’ve allowed a TOTAL of 20 points through 4 weeks while recording 18 sacks, 9 interceptions and 3 touchdowns and now get to take on a rookie quarterback in his first career start. You do the math.

GPP PLAYS

  • Josh Gordon (WR-NE): Josh Norman is a shell of his former self, boasting a 51.4 PFF grade (90th at the position) and should be a matchup that Gordon can take advantage of given his size and athleticism. He remains a GPP play due to the lack of reliable volume, but his big-play ability makes him a home-run play in GPPs.
  • Terry McLaurin (WR-WAS): McLaurin practiced Wednesday, so I would expect him to suit up for week 5. He’s posted 5+ catches, 60+ yards and a touchdown in each of his first three games and shouldn’t see a massive downgrade with the QB change since he’s had established chemistry with Haskins at OSU. Due to the Pats defense, however, he’s limited to a large-field tournament play at best.
