1. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have attacked their wide receiver issue with draft picks outside the first round in recent years (Dante Pettis, Deebo Samuel, Jalen Hurd, Richie James), and while Marquise Goodwin is a nice player he’s not a quintessential No.1 guy on the perimeter.

Diggs will turn still only turn 26 in late November, so he’s got plenty of good years left. His contract has a bit of flexibility, with his 2020 ($10.9 million) and 2021 ($11.4 million) base salaries not becoming guaranteed until March of those years, after the respective league years start. So if it doesn’t work out, over the rest of this year or in 2020, ties can be cut rather easily.

Leaving aside the age difference, there are easy parallels to draw between Kirk Cousins and Jimmy Garoppolo. So that prospect may not excite Diggs. But there’s a strong argument Kyle Shanahan is a superior offensive mind to what’s in Minnesota right now, and he has shown he can raise the level of players with his scheme (see quarterback Nick Mullens in 2018, when Garoppolo was out). Give San Francisco a legit No. 1 wide receiver, and the ceiling for Garoppolo goes higher and Shanahan can surely dust off some parts of his playbook.

The 49ers were rumored to be in the mix for Odell Beckham Jr. and Antonio Brown before they were traded last offseason. Circling back with interest in Diggs now is easy to see coming.
