5 NFL teams that must win in Week 5
1. Minnesota Vikings
While things are getting tense in Atlanta, it feels like we are about to enter full on locker room war in Minnesota. The Vikings may be 2-2, but things are starting to unravel as Minnesota has hit a rough patch.
The tipping point has been two divisional losses on the road, with Minnesota losing at Green Bay in Week 2 and at the Bears a week ago. The Vikings actually knocked out Bears’ starter Mitchell Trubisky early in the game, but backup Chase Daniel made enough plays to guide Chicago to a victory.
The key issue for the Vikings has been the play of quarterback Kirk Cousins, who was abysmal against the Bears. Cousins was sacked six times and struggled to find open receivers, with wideout Adam Thielen calling out Cousins’ inability to hit deep passes after the game.
Cousins apologized publicly to Thielen, but it is safe to say that this issue is far from over. The Vikings need a win with a good showing from Cousins to prevent a full on mutiny in the locker room, and that opportunity comes with a trip to New York to take on the Giants.
The big headline with the Giants is the solid start to Daniel Jones‘ NFL career, but the New York defense is vulnerable in the secondary, with multiple quarterbacks torching them over the first three weeks of the season. This matchup presents a perfect opportunity for Cousins and the Minnesota offense to get healthy, and if they can’t take advantage of it we could be in for big problems in Minneapolis.
