Fantasy Football: Ownership Updates

Quarterback

Deshaun Watson still looks like the chalkiest QB on the slate and Matt Ryan might end up the second most popular play at the position. This game is attracting a lot of attention around the industry and I will definitely have some exposure to both of these passing games.

Andy Dalton and Kyler Murray are both projected in double digits as many touts have highlighted this game between two bad defenses as one to target in fantasy football this weekend.

Tom Brady is still my guy this weekend, and it looks like I may be able to get him at sub 5% ownership (giggles).

Running Back

David Johnson has leapfrogged several other high-priced, bell-cow backs and is now projected to be the second-highest owned running back on the slate behind Christian McCaffrey. So while he won’t be sneaky at all, he’s still a solid play and I’m okay with playing chalky running backs this week. In fact, because there are 5-6 elite plays at running back, I am making the position my top priority when it comes to spending my salary cap.

Alvin Kamara is the one high-priced back that looks like he could be really low-owned. I’m not really on the Saints offense this week, but if you’re strictly playing game theory he projects as the best upside play at low ownership at the position.

Wide Receiver

Auden Tate is now projected as the highest owned receiver on the slate. At only 3500 he’s going to be a staple of my cash game lineup, but just beware that he’s trending towards 30% or higher in GPPs which should make you nervous considering the volatility of the receiver position.

Have you heard? It’s Will Fuller week! Just about every tout is on Will Fuller this week and he now projects as one of the top five owned players at the position. Fuller and his air yards are attractive in this game, but let’s not forget he’s not caught more than 5 passes in any game this year. His game-high is 69 yards and he has yet to score a touchdown. Now that could mean he’s “due” for some progression but it also serves as a reminder that he’s an incredibly volatile play who looks way too chalky for my liking.

Tight End

Tyler Eifert chalk week it is! Because of how bad the Cardinals have been against tight ends, Eifert is projected for double the ownership of almost every other player at the position. I’d eat the chalk in cash games, but I’m looking to pivot in GPPs to several other cheap options (refer back to my GPP pivots article for more!)

Defense

The Patriots are holding steady as the chalk, but they are not all that chalky compared to the top backs and receivers on the slate. If you have the money, then play them. But if you’re still looking to save some extra cap space, you can play either the Steelers or Bucs defenses for half of what the Patriots cost and both are projecting at 5% ownership or less.
