NFL DFS bargain bin: Week 5 Quarterbacks

Joe Flacco, DEN at LAC:

(DraftKings-$4,700/FanDuel-$6,600/FantasyDraft-$10,000/Yahoo-$22)

Flacco has hardly endeared himself to Broncos fans while being partly responsible for the team’s 0-4 start. However, rather quietly, he’s actually been serviceable in a fantasy sense the more he’s played with his potent starting receiver duo of Emmanuel Sanders and Courtland Sutton. Flacco has thrown for at least 268 yards in three of the first four games, topping out at 303 yards (with a season-high three touchdown passes as well) versus the Jaguars in Week 4.

The Chargers have allowed the second-highest catch rate (74.0) in the NFL and eight passing touchdowns, while Flacco checks in with a solid 66.8 xCOMP percentage. Flacco is showing improving rapport with all of his pass-catchers, including rookie tight end Noah Fant, and Denver should have plenty of incentive to open up the playbook and remain aggressive through the air against the Chargers due to the Broncos’ winless status.

Chase Daniel, CHI at OAK:

(DraftKings- $4,800/FanDuel-$6,500/FantasyDraft-$10,000/Yahoo-$20)

Daniel draws the Week 5 start in London with Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) out of action. His matchup, bargain-basement prices and past track record as an interim quarterback all put him squarely in play across each of the four sites. Daniel was excellent in two starts last season, throwing for 515 yards and three touchdowns. He was also solid in Trubisky’s stead in Week 4, throwing for 195 yards and completing 73.3 percent of his throws against the Vikings.

The Raiders also make for an enticing matchup. They’ve allowed a 9:1 TD:INT to opposing QBs through four games and the sixth-most air yards (1,376), with 1,150 of those converting into completed yards. Oakland is also surrendering the fifth-highest aDOT (Average Depth of Target), 9.7 yards, and while Taylor Gabriel, arguably Chicago’s top downfield target, will miss this game with a concussion, coach Matt Nagy could well open up the playbook a bit more for a veteran like Daniel that completed six passes of 20 yards or greater during his abbreviated action last season and two in Week 4 as well versus a tough Minnesota secondary.
