NFL FanDuel: Week 5 RB Targets – (Early Only)

Christian McCaffrey – $9,100 – (Cash/GPP)

On the main slate, I think I am in favor of going with Zeke against the Packers as the match-up is much better, but for cash games on the early slate I think the three running backs that will end up chalk by a large margin will be article cover boy and my next target David Johnson, Dalvin Cook against the Giants, and a volume machine here in Christian McCaffrey.

McCaffrey showed us he was human against the Bucs on a Thursday night in week two, but we all know those Thursday games can be weird, and offenses can be sluggish on just a few days rest. I am more impressed with what he did last week against a solid Houston Texans defense, and that is what is making me lock him in. McCaffrey ran the ball 27 times albeit just for 93 yards, but he found the end zone once and added 86 yards through the air on 10 catches.

Cam Newton remains out which means Kyle Allen will be under center once again, and so far that has been good for CMC. This will be a challenge against Jacksonville, but Houston’s defense is arguably better, and he still flirted with 30 FDP. As long as he scores touchdowns and continues to be active in the passing game, he will continue to be worth his salary.

David Johnson – $6,800 – (Cash)

Much like I look to see which tight end is playing Arizona, I also tend to give plenty of consideration to whichever running back is starting against the Bengals. After the week two game in which the 49ers rushed for over 200 yards with Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert, followed by 175 in week three by Frank Gore and company, pretty much any running back has been in play against this defense.

Johnson has not been getting the carries I would like to see out of my FLEX RB, but he has been productive enough in the passing game over the last couple of weeks. He is averaging just over 40 rushing yards per game, but he has been targeted 20 times in the passing game over the last two weeks. DJ caught 14 of those passes, for 127 yards and a touchdown.

Last week the Bengals could not stop James Conner and Jaylen Samuels through the air as the pair combined for 16 catches, 150 yards and a TD by Conner. I have no idea what is being projected as far as ownership goes, but my guess is that DJ will be the highest owned back of the week in cash games with CMC not too far behind him.

***Also Consider or FLEX: Dalvin Cook $8,200 – Mark Ingram $7,500 – David Montgomery (GPP – Value) $5,700***
