Heisman rankings Week 6: Jonathan Taylor running over everyone
4. Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin
With 14:20 still remaining in the third quarter, Jonathan Taylor broke off a big 48-yard touchdown run against Kent State to give the Wisconsin Badgers a 35-0 lead. Taylor came out after that scoring play, meaning he was on the field for less than 31 minutes. And yet, Taylor still torched the defense to unbelievable degrees as he finished the day with five total touchdowns, four of them on the ground and one through the air. Oh, he also had 186 yards rushing and 29 yards receiving too.
Through five games now, Taylor has 745 yards rushing on just 103 carries and a massive 12 touchdowns on the ground. On top of that, he’s already set career highs in receiving with 12 catches for 114 yards and four receiving touchdowns. No matter the matchup, no one has been able to stop Taylor this season. And given his track record, it’s hard to imagine that changing. He’s only going to see his Heisman Trophy stock rise.
3. Joe Burrow, QB, LSU
Another LSU Tigers victory, another monster performance from quarterback Joe Burrow. The second-year signal-caller in Baton Rouge went into a highly touted matchup of NFL Draft prospects against Jordan Love and Utah State and Burrow continued to prove himself. The Ohio State transfer went 27-of-38 for 344 yards and five touchdowns while also adding a rushing score, though he did throw an interception.
Burrow has now thrown for 1,864 yards, 23 touchdowns, only three interceptions and added three rushing touchdowns to his credit this season. He’s been miles better than almost anyone expected him to be this season and that doesn’t look to stop. Having said that, if he can do this type of stuff against Florida, one of the better defenses in college football, next week, Burrow may leap into the top two.
