2. Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma

Measuring the majority of college football quarterbacks, Jalen Hurts had a huge game for the Oklahoma Sooners in their win over Kansas. The graduate transfer finished with 228 yards passing, two passing touchdowns, 56 rushing yards and two more rushing scores. However, in this hotly contested race, the No. 1 ranked player all year drops one spot after Week 6.

For one, Hurts threw his second interception of the season on Saturday, which isn’t a good look when the competition isn’t committing turnovers. More importantly, though, Hurts (and the Sooners as a whole for that matter) were short of otherworldly, which they haven’t been all season. With other monster seasons happening around him, that gives Hurts less of an edge. If you think he can’t make up ground, though, you’re sorely mistaken.

1. Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama

By virtue of not playing in Week 6, Tua Tagovailoa takes over the top spot in the Heisman race. It’s been neck-and-neck all season between the Alabama quarterback and Hurts with any slight deviation from an exceptionally dominant course perhaps proving to be the difference. And with Tagovailoa’s former teammate having a really good as opposed to unreal game in Week 6, Tua takes over the No. 1 ranking.

Tagovailoa has been absolutely phenomenal all season, throwing for 1,718 yards, 23 touchdowns and no interceptions while completing an incredible 76.4 percent of his passes. For good measure, he also has two touchdown runs on the year already as well. He faces a big test in Texas A&M in Week 7, which could be telling. But after an idle week, Tua is in the driver’s seat.
