Houston Open punt plays

COLE HAMMER

You may have read about Cole last week when we mentioned Jack Trent, the UNLV Sophomore. Cole was defeated by Trent in that event which leads to the Shriners Exemption in a sudden-death playoff, but the young Texas A&M Freshman and 2018 Western Amateur Champion is primed to make his debut event on the PGA Tour. As a Freshman at A&M, Cole’s 2018-2019 season consisted of him winning 2 events, a top 10, and two top 25’s. This coming with a 69.8 scoring average and a low round of 64.

Short story, Cole is a great young player with insane potential, currently ranked SECOND in World Amateur Golf Standings. He’s played a lot of courses of similar setup and terrain in the area collegiality, we saw how that played out for Trent last week. Let’s hope Cole can do the same. He is also gotten the Walker Cup exposure alongside Brandon Wu and Bhatia representing the USA, and he will have a ton of local support playing in his hometown of Houston. $6,400 DK – $7,100 FD

DJ TRAHAN

Known as a long hitter much like the other “DJ”, Trahan is ranked 6th in Par 5 efficiency over the last 30 rounds among his peers in the field. We last saw Trahan at the Sanderson Farms where he eventually missed the cut, but during those 4 rounds he showed potential in Strokes Gained OTT with a positive of +1.9. Ultimately his putter let him down where he just could not avoid the 3 putt. DJ put together a T35 the previous week at TPC Old White, he shows streaky potential, and he is volatile.

For a low price and because the new Top 65 cut rule went into effect, one can afford a missed cut and still have a solid return on investment. (I had the worst 6/6 in history last week with Adam Scott’s 4th round meltdown). DJ is averaging 319 OTT with 68% accuracy, we will need his length this week. $6,800 DK- $7,900 FD
