Early DraftKings college football wide receiver picks October 12

Top Tier:

We saw Lil’Jordan Humphrey decimate the Oklahoma secondary last year. That role belongs to Devin Duvernay this year. Duvernay was solid against Oklahoma last year, but this could be his year to have a huge game. At any rate, both Duvernay and Collin Johnson are worth looks here. I’m not sold on our secondary, and they always have big games against Oklahoma.

On the other side of this, CeeDee Lamb is an elite play against the banged up Texas secondary. Charleston Rambo is a potentially elite play for the price for the same reason.

I want some more clarity on the status of Henry Ruggs before I finalize my lineups. With Ruggs out two weeks ago, DaVonta Smith rewrote the Alabama record books. If Ruggs is out again, I’m all in on Smith here. I do like Jeudy, but I have a hard time believing that he has a better game than Lamb, Duvernay, and Smith.

Middle Tier:

If you’re like me and think that the Clemson offense may explode against this questionable defense, particularly the secondary, there’s no reason to fade Tee Higgins or Justyn Ross. Higgins is the one I would use if only using one, but both are really good plays. Therein lies the problem. The top of wide receiver is loaded on this DraftKings college football slate. It’s hard to decide on just three or four.

With all of the elite options, I kind of feel like Denzel Mims is going to get lost in the shuffle. Texas Tech’s pass defense is still a sore spot, and Mims is always the first option in the passing game. Mims has no less than five receptions in any game this season. The same can be said for Brandon Aiyuk, especially if Arizona State has to throw to keep up.

If you think A&M is going to have to throw it around in this one, I think you’re right. Jhamon Ausbon had the bigger game against a tough Auburn defense, so he’s the A&M receiver I want. For the same reason Keshawn Helton is a solid play for Florida State. He’s the guy Hornibrook is looking for most of the time.

Dontay Demus is a home run waiting to happen for Maryland, but his floor is hell. I’d rather go after target hound Jalen Calhoun for Duke even though he doesn’t have nearly the upside of Demus.

Bargain Shoppers:

The Michigan offense should look much better against a questionable Illinois team. Donovan Peoples-Jones is the guy that really stands out here. I’m not sold on the quarterback’s ability to get it to him with regularity, but Peoples-Jones was a factor against an Iowa defense that locked down the Wolverines. Peoples-Jones is clearly the receiver Michigan wants to get the ball to. Nico Collins is worth a look on the cheap as well.

Deshaunte Jones has 17 receptions over the last two games. If you don’t use him against West Virginia, you’re just donating.

It’s amazing what happens when you have a quarterback that can hit receivers. Marquez Callaway was the guy that was really happy to see Maurer back there for the Vols. He responded with 105 receiving yards against a good Georgia defense. Look for Callaway to be a factor again in this one.

Jackson Anthrop appeared to be the guy who is going to absorb the bulk of Rondale Moore’s targets. He hauled in seven passes against Penn State. It should be a much easier road against Maryland this week, making Anthrop a nice value play.
