Tight Ends

Last week George Kittle was a big part of the 49ers attack of the Cleveland defense on Monday night to earn him the top spot among fantasy tight ends for week five. Gerald Everett got hot in the second half on the Thursday night game against the Seahawks and ended up as TE2 last week. Zach Ertz got back on track and finished TE3 for week five, and Darren Fells came out of nowhere to take advantage of Deshaun Watson’s air raid of the Falcons to put him as TE4.

My top two ranked tight ends from a week ago, Travis Kelce and Evan Engram struggled a bit, finishing ninth and 10th for week five. Engram left the game with an injury and is out for week six against the Patriots. Tyler Eifert bucked the trend of “start your tight end against the Arizona Cardinals” by being nearly nonexistent last week.

I had Kittle in the top three, nailed Austin Hooper at six. Otherwise, it was a pretty unpredictable week at the position with many surprises jumping into the top 15 such as Fells, Ryan Izzo, Foster Moreau, and Lee Smith.

Here is my best effort to try to rank arguably the most unpredictable position in fantasy for week six.

  1. Travis Kelce KC vs HOU
  2. Austin Hooper ATL vs AZ
  3. George Kittle SF vs LAR
  4. Will Dissly SEA vs CLE
  5. Greg Olsen CAR vs TB
  6. Zach Ertz PHI vs MIN
  7. Mark Andrews BAL vs CIN
  8. Delanie Walker TEN vs DEN
  9. Gerald Everett LAR vs SF
  10. Jimmy Graham GB vs DET
  11. Jared Cook NO vs JAC
  12. T.J. Hockenson DET vs GB
  13. Noah Fant DEN vs TEN
  14. Vance McDonald PIT vs LAC
  15. Jason Witten DAL vs NYJ
  16. Tyler Eifert CIN vs BAL
  17. O.J. Howard TB vs CAR
  18. Darren Fells HOU vs KC
  19. Geoff Swaim JAC vs NO
  20. Vernon Davis WAS vs MIA
  21. Ryan Izzo NE vs NYG
  22. Rhett Ellison NYG vs NE
  23.  Dallas Goedert PHI vs MIN
  24. Jordan Akins HOU vs KC
  25. Hayden Hurst BAL vs CIN
  26. Ricky Seals-Jones CLE vs SEA
  27. Tyler Higbee LAR vs SF
  28. Josh Hill NO vs JAC
  29. Blake Jarwin DAL vs NYJ
  30. Kyle Rudolph MIN vs PHI

Once again, with a shootout expected between the Chiefs and Texans, I have to go with Mahomes’ favorite target at one here in Travis Kelce. I expect Ausitn Hooper to the “start your tight end against the Arizona Cardinals” train back on its tracks this week as he has been one of the best fantasy tight ends all season.

George Kittle is coming off of a week where he was TE1 and Will Dissly has been a touchdown machine this year and is facing the defense that created the number one tight end last week. Greg Olsen had an off week in week five, but Tampa Bay has been horrible against opposing tight ends as well, allowing Jared Cook to have his first good game of the season last week.

Beyond the top 7-12 it seems like tight end is a complete dart throw, more than it has been in recent years. Tight ends are always pretty touchdown dependent but this year a solid week to week tight end is incredibly hard to come by.

If you are in a bind with bye weeks or injuries, some players with decent matchups who could be decent streaming options are Vance McDonald, Darren Fells and Jordan Akins, Noah Fant, Vernon Davis (if he plays), and Ricky Seals-Jones.
