NFL DFS: Quarterback Pivots

Chalk: Pat Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Kyler Murray

Pivots: Gardner Minshew, Matt Ryan

The Kansas City-Houston game has everyone’s attention and I expect those two young quarterbacks to be extremely high owned this week as does FanShare’s projections. Kyler Murray is facing an Atlanta secondary that has been torched week after week and looks like a popular pick, too. My first pivot will be switching over to the other quarterback in that game, Matt Ryan.

“Matty Ice” and the Falcons are having a rough start to their season, but he’s still posting some huge numbers as a result of his defense giving up so many points and forcing his offense into a lot of pass-heavy game scripts. He’s topped 300 yards in all five games this season and had 40+ pass attempts in four of those games. The volume is absolutely something we want in DFS and this game with Arizona has just as good of a chance at being a shootout as the more popular Houston-KC game. At 6.4k on Draftkings, he’s right below the other elite QB plays this week and probably more than most people want to pay if they move down from the top tier.

The cheap play this week is Gardner Minshew at only 5k. He’s facing a New Orleans defense that is much worse against the pass than the run and will try to stop Fournette and force Minshew to beat them. I don’t know if he will pull off the win, but I do think Minshew can have a big game relative to his price here. He’s been spectacular this year with 9 touchdowns and only one pick while compiling a QB rating of 105, which is good for 6th best among qualified starters. I’ll look to stack him with either D.J. Chark (or should we call him D.J. CHALK this week) or the sneakier Dede Westbrook.
