DFS fantasy football – RB’s to Sit

Le’Veon Bell (NYJ) vs. DAL

Bell is a running back where I hate having on this list, but his situation is just not the same as it was during his days with the Steelers. When he was rocking the black and yellow he was one of, if not the best running back in the league as he terrorized defenses with his phenomenal patient style of running. Now that Bell jetted off to New York for a bigger contract this offseason, he hasn’t been able to put up the same type of production like he used to. He’s currently eleventh in fantasy points (17.1/gm), ninth in receiving yards (41.5/gm), and 31st in rushing yards (51.5/gm). The efficiency just isn’t there and I don’t fault Bell for this. It’s the team around him. He doesn’t have a good supporting cast to alleviate some of the pressure off of him as he did during his days in Pittsburgh. It doesn’t help that the Jets had to resort to their third-string quarterback in Luke Falk as well. While starter Sam Darnold is expected to return for New York’s game against the Cowboys, I sincerely don’t think it’s going to be enough to get him back to producing at an elite level.

Todd Gurley (LAR) vs. SF

I hate having to put Gurley on this list too, but his usage and upcoming matchup just don’t bode well for a strong performance. The Rams are doing their due diligence by monitoring how many touches their star running back gets per game. In 2018, he was averaging a little over 18 carries per game. Now in 2019, his average has significantly dropped to slightly above 12. The 49ers are also the fifth-best at preventing running backs from having a successful day on the ground in terms of rushing yards. As talented as Gurley is, he’s becoming heavily reliant on touchdowns to give him a boost for fantasy production. As I’ve stated before, I do not like relying on players who depend on getting touchdowns to have a successful day in fantasy every single week. I would avoid using Gurley in this situation heading into Sunday, especially since he has recently been listed as doubtful with a quad injury that just flared up.

Jordan Howard (PHI) @ MIN

While Howard’s recent fantasy production has been fairly impressive especially in his previous two games played, I’m still not convinced that he will be able to sustain it against the Vikings. Minnesota has one of the best rush defenses in the league surrendering only 77.6 (seventh-best) yards per game to opposing backfields. Considering how the Eagles are oscillating between Howard, Miles Sanders, and Darren Sproles, it’s hard to fully put your eggs in one basket with Howard this week. I strongly suggest you seek other options for this week’s slate of games coming up.
